Ready to explore the writer in you?

You’ve got a story to tell, but you just can’t seem to get it out. It hits you when you least expect it: the longing to sit down and write. But how do you get started? And how do you decide what idea is worth writing about?

Attending a Write Now Retreat means giving yourself and that voice in your head a chance to explore what your heart already knows: you’re a writer.

It’s time to get the words out of your head and onto the page.

That’s what this weekend is for.

What is The Write Now Retreat?

The Write Now Retreat is a small, intimate virtual weekend experience for aspiring writers who are ready to stop thinking about their book and start actually writing it.

This isn’t a prescription method to get your book finished. It’s a safe space to help you get started. Choose a genre and book topic. Outline some ideas. Get words on the page during dedicated writing sessions. Get coached on areas where you’re struggling. Walk away having started your book. For real.

Genres, Topics, Outlines

Explore how to choose a genre and topic and write without a strict outline. You don’t need to have everything figured out to start.

Practice Writing

Focus your writing efforts with prompts, brainstorming sessions and co-working opportunities to write in a supported community.

Overcome Writer’s Block

Don’t let hesitation get in the way of your ideas coming to life. Gentle, guided activities help you focus on what matters.

Support when you need it

Get group and 1:1 coaching during the weekend to help you get clear on what you want out of your book and what others can get out of it too.

How the Weekend Works

Every Write Now Retreat is built around three things new writers need most. With a maximum 10 participants, every retreat looks like this:

The Write Now Retreat is Not…

Meet your writing coach

Heather Deveaux

I’ve written and published 7 romance novels, including 2 complete trilogies, and 5 non-fiction titles over the last decade. I’m also a certified coach, trainer, and facilitator with a Master of Adult Education degree, which means I know how to meet you where you are, support you along the way, and give you what you need to succeed.

While other people will tell you that writing is a talent you’re born with, I know it’s a skill you can learn. I know how to help you begin and I can show you how to keep the momentum going without getting down on yourself for thinking you have a creativity problem.

My approach is simple: writing is problem solving. I’ll show you how to think about it that way—and you’ll wonder why you ever thought you couldn’t write a book.

Haven’t you waited long enough?

That book isn’t going to write itself.

Come spend a weekend with a small group of people who get it, guided by someone who has done it twelve times and knows exactly how to help you find your voice and begin.

F.A.Qs

None whatsoever. This retreat is designed for people at the very beginning of their writing journey. If you can tell a story out loud you have everything you need. You can choose to write on paper or use your computer. Whatever works best for you.

Perfect. We’ll figure that out together on Friday night. Many people will arrive not knowing, but leave with complete clarity. A bit of advice: if you’re thinking about writing a book, you probably DO want to write a book, but maybe the kind of book or style of book might be different from what you’re thinking. You’ll be able to explore all your options. Just bring an open mind.

No, this retreat is for everyone who wants to start writing a book, regardless of genre. Even if you’re not sure or can’t choose between the two, you’ll be able to work through the choice in a supportive, exploratory environment with someone who has written both fiction and non-fiction books.

A writing retreat is about giving yourself a chance to see what’s possible. Sessions will be recorded so you won’t miss anything. However, showing up live is where the magic happens, so if you think you might need to miss some time, opt to attend the retreat next month. They are scheduled every month (usually the last weekend of the month).

This isn’t a course. There’s no homework, no grades, no curriculum to keep up with. It’s a supported writing experience. You’re not here to learn about writing. You’re here to actually write and learn about what kind of writing you want to pursue by doing, not watching someone else do it.

You’ll walk away with a plan to continue writing that works for you. For writers who want to keep writing in a community with Heather, The First Draft Club is available for ongoing writing support, coaching, and feedback. You’ll hear more about this at the end of the weekend, but there’s no pressure to join.

As a rule, refunds are not given because you can access the recorded sessions even if you can’t attend; however, you have the option to defer your attendance to another retreat in the future. They happen on a monthly basis.

Yes, you can request a payment plan consisting of 2 equal payments up to 30 days apart with final payment due before the start of the retreat. Please email heatherdeveaux@gmail.com for more information.
