About Heather Deveaux
A little writing life, creativity, entrepreneurship, publishing, traveling, and mom life. I’m glad you’re here!
Once a writer, always a writer
I’ve been writing my whole life. Writing is how I process the world, how I make sense of experiences, and how I’ve always expressed what matters most to me. It shows up in everything I do: my books, my blog, my teaching, my coaching, and the stories I send out in the mail every month to a small group of people who love smutty romance and fiction as much as I do.
My first published book came in 2017. Since then, eleven more have followed. Seven romance novels, including two complete trilogies, and five non-fiction titles covering weight loss, business, creativity and self-discovery. I write across genres because I live across experiences, and I’ve learned that the best writing always comes from a life being fully lived.
I’m a mom, a lover of fast cars, camping, new adventures, putting myself out there and curling up with a good book. I’ve done a lot of amazing things in my life, but writing remains the thread that ties them together.

Learning as I Go
I’ve always loved to learn. While I’ve learned a lot from others, I’ve learned the most about myself through writing. I’ve been educating adults in one form or another for most of my career: in the military, in community literacy programs, in colleges, and eventually through my own coaching and consulting practice. I have a degree in English and Communications, completed my Master of Adult Education between 2013 and 2018 and hold certifications in coaching, training and facilitation. I understand how adults learn, what gets in their way, and how to move them from feeling stuck to moving without making them feel bad about where they started. Everyone starts somewhere and my message is always the same: the time will pass anyway, so just start.
In 2022, I drove across the country alone — six weeks, 16,000 kilometers, more camping spots than I can count. You don’t take a trip like that without it changing a thing or two about your life and as expected, I came home knowing it was time for a change. That trip showed me what spending my time doing the things I wanted to do could really be like and when I got home, I focused more on writing, publishing my first romance trilogy and doubling down on my consulting business to write training for other organizations.

A Home for Everything I love
That’s what this site is. Heather Deveaux Creative is where my books live, where I write openly about the creative life, and where I run The Write Now Retreat — a virtual writing weekend for people who are ready to stop thinking about their book and start writing it. It’s the home of The First Draft Club — my monthly membership for aspiring writers who want to work on their manuscript in a supportive, community environment.
My approach to helping others write is simple: I meet you where you are and give you what you need. I’ve done this twelve times myself. I know how to help you begin. You can’t know where writing will take you unless you start. It’s taken me amazing places and helped me understand the world around me and I hope it does that for you too.
